Solana: a new outage would be at the origin of the failure of several transactions

The Solana blockchain was reportedly offline for several hours on the morning of Tuesday, January 4—the Solana. Status service, however, indicates that the network has not experienced any problems in recent days.

This is the 3rd incident in the space of a few months. The Solana network has recently been congested, causing some transactions to fail. Several users have wondered if the blockchain has fallen victim to another denial-of-service attack.

It is challenging to know the exact extent of this failure. Anatoly Yakovenko, the co-founder of Solana Labs, has, in any case, dismissed the idea of an attack.

This latest incident comes just a month after an attack that also caused network congestion. It was caused by the massive activity of “bots” participating in an “Initial Dex Offering” (IDO) on the decentralized exchange platform Raydium, itself backed by Solana.

A post-Tuesday on the r/CryptoCurrency subreddit also shows several screenshots of failed transactions offered by Solana users during the potential network outage.

The exchange Coinbase has, for its part, produced an incident report concerning Solana, evoking a “degraded performance” that “could cause withdrawal failures”.

Anatoly Yakovenko acknowledged the existence of network problems. They would not be caused by a denial of service attack but by “difficulties related to setting up a new execution environment”.

In a December 22, 2021, interview with CoinTelegraph, Austin Federa, director of communications at Solana Labs, they were told that the developers were looking to solve the performance issues faced by the network.
